We are Midwives Model of Care™ providers.

The Midwives Model of Care™ is a fundamentally different approach to pregnancy and childbirth than contemporary obstetrics. Midwifery care is uniquely nurturing, hands-on care before, during, and after birth. Midwives are health care professionals specializing in pregnancy and childbirth who develop a trusting relationship with their clients, which results in confident, supported labor and birth. While there are different types of midwives practicing in various settings, all midwives are trained to provide comprehensive prenatal care and education, guide labor and birth, address complications, and care for newborns. The Midwives Model of Care™ is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life events. The application of this model has been proven to reduce to incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.

The Midwives Model of Care includes:

  • monitoring the physical, psychological and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle

  • providing the mother/birthing person with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support

  • minimizing technological interventions and identifying and referring clients who require obstetrical attention.

We are Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia to provide midwifery care. The CPM is the only international credential that requires knowledge about and experience in out-of-hospital settings. The practice of midwifery by CPMs is regulated by the Virginia Board of Medicine. Under Virginia law CPMS are referred to as Licensed Midwives (LMs). LM regulations require that midwives maintain CPM certification through The North American Registry of Midwives (NARM).

“Aimee and Desiree are truly the best! Caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable at what they do. Their prenatal care kept me calm and unintimidated at what lied ahead. They gave me exactly what I was looking for in labor and delivery, which was to allow me to focus on my body's natural abilities and instinct to pull myself through the hardest task ever without unnecessary disturbance.”
